Hi MediCard. I would like to commend my Account Manager, Mr. Ronald Taneo, for reminding me to avail myself of the executive check-up benefit last July 2015. If I had not been reminded, the OB-Gyne in MediCard Festival Supermall may not have detected the tumor in my abdomen. I was referred to a surgeon and was scheduled for a CT Scan and colonoscopy at MediCard-accredited hospital. I hope all results will come in negative. I am very grateful to Ron for reminding me, otherwise I would have never discovered this. I hope more people will follow his example for being responsible to his client. Thank you and God bless!

How MediCard Saved Our Monthsary

By: MJ De Leon

Partner and me promised to always find a new place to celebrate our monthsaries. Our 26th was definitely in some place new… the Makati Medical Hospital.

For 7 days until Wednesday, my fever kept coming back. Flu and cough were around too which led me to a bad feeling that it wasn”t an ordinary fever. It could be something bacterial which needs serious medical attention.

As soon as my partner arrived from work, I immediately packed my bags and asked him to take me to the nearest hospital which is Makati Med. He paused and asked me if I can consider other hospitals for financial reasons. I insisted. Not because we”re just 10 minutes away from the facility, but I have a MediCard.

Working for more than 10 years now, one of the main requirements before I accept a job offer is health benefits. We mostly give more importance on employee loans, car plans, night differential, hazard pays, and other bonuses but shouldn”t we look at HMO (Health Maintenance Organization) first?

We are no superheros and everyone is vulnerable to illnesses, especially when we really work hard. And hospital bills can be very, crazy expensive that it sucks up whatever little amount you have in your bank account.  While you can plan for your next car, you can”t foresee when will medical bills eat your budget. But you can be ready by being HMO-covered and you”ll be worry-free when you choose the best.

I remember my friends from other companies would ask what are each other”s HMOs. There would always be different perceptions about the top companies but the most solid reputation I have so far is that of MediCard. Now that I decided to take a rest from corporate and stay freelance, I chose MediCard for my voluntary HMO contributions.

Why? They are 28 years established in the Philippines with almost 40,000 accredited doctors, health specialists and dentists in more than 1,000 hospitals and clinics in the country. You can be assured that there”s a doctor near you. Mine just happened to be in one of the country”s best hospitals. MediCard is also the only HMO built and managed by doctors, which makes sense because they are the ones who know what the patients need.

MediCard has laid out easy processes for outpatient consultation, outpatient laboratory care, hospitalization care, emergency admission, and dental services. After presenting your card, the rest would be smooth-sailing from seeing the doctor, taking some tests to billing.

I presented my MediCard first when I went to the nurses station. I was asked some medical questions and they immediately forwarded me to the registration counter where my information was encoded in the computer. Moments later, a doctor called me for the formal check-up. I told him everything that I felt for the past few days and he endorsed me for blood tests and X-ray. My tests went smoothly and after 30 minutes, I was called back by the same doctor. He informed that I just had an Upper Respiratory Tract Infection which was caused by extreme weather conditions. He gave me prescription. My last stop was at the billing department where I was told that MediCard took care of everything.

I saw the slip and my bill would”ve been PhP3,900. For some people, that amount might be minimal but for the others who are on a tight budget, that”s kind of a big deal. What if it was something serious which required me to be admitted for a couple of days and get more lab tests. I don”t know about you but PhP50,000 of unexpected spending is heavy on the pocket and we can avoid this by having a MediCard.

While writing this, I am feeling better. A hospital might not be the most romantic venue for a monthsary date but I appreciated my partner more, recalling the time when she convinced me to voluntarily pay for an HMO even if I am no longer in corporate. That gesture is her greatest monthsary gift ever. You can do the same for your loved ones! Let MediCard save the day!

HMO Literacy: Plan ahead, stay healthy, and save more

By: Marc Laurenze Celis

My parents have a very strange connotation with hospitals, they hated it. Scratch that, they abhorred it! The only time you’ll get them to enter a hospital would be when a new baby is born in the family. My mom would constantly rub liniment on her aching muscles or pop a pain reliever over visiting a doctor, my dad, on the other hand, prefers the old fashion way—drink the pain away, with beer.

Fortunately, I was employed in a company whose thrust in healthcare for the employees and their dependents are on top priority. A few months ago, my dad had his nasty knees checked and drained of extra fluid; my mom finally had her sore joints checked by a professional.

While waiting, I heard my parents talking to the physician. Rambling how lucky they were their son was able to land a job with a Medicard. I realized it wasn’t because they were stubborn. They weren’t scared of the doctors; they were scared of the medical bill.

After the check up, we went straight to the HMO desk. I gave the staff a copy of the hospital bill which I didn”t even have to pay. The guy just stamped it and then told my parents, “You’re free to go home now, sir and ma’am. Hope you feel better. Thank you.”

My parents are awesome; they were able to send off all their four kids to college despite the financial struggles of a downward trodden business. We were always on their priority: our studies, our health, and yes even our impulse needs. It’s been a long time coming, but I’m glad I don’t have to worry too much about their health, thanks to Medicard.

Many people would often ignore the importance of having an HMO. They often see it as a time-consuming process to undertake or worse, an unnecessary expense. But time and again, I have personally proven that having medical coverage is not only financially smart, but also hugely beneficial to one’s health.

Having no health coverage often leads to less timely medical care, which later on results to more serious illnesses that require more expensive treatments.

Lucky for us Filipinos, with just a P100 every month, we can enroll as a PhilHealth member and enjoy subsidy for room and board, drugs and medicines, laboratories, operating room and professional fees when you need it. For a few more pesos, you can include your spouse, your children and even your parents as your dependents and they too will enjoy the same benefits.

Moreover, Medicard, the only HMO run and founded by doctors, has affordable packages designed for self-employed individuals as well.

It may look costly and impractical at first, especially if you’re young, active and living a healthy lifestyle. But you really never know when you’ll encounter a medical emergency in your life. Medicard takes the stress away and leaves you worry-free.

Live a Worry-free Life with MediCard

By Emiliana Sison-Mallare

Everybody has worried about something in their lives. I’m one of those individuals who is often preoccupied with “what ifs”. I have learned in my younger years to prepare for worst-case scenarios. Doing so can help me identify problems early on and take control of my life. I find that worrying can sometimes be helpful as it spurs one to take action and solve a problem even before it materializes.

You see, I lost my father in 1987. He was in the pink of his health at 39 years old. Our family never thought that a traumatic incident at home would strike and require him to be in Intensive Care Unit (ICU). His cost of basic care quickly added up and skyrocketed us into the pits of bankruptcy in 4 days. Our family was dumbfounded then with circumstances that have changed overtime! This situation placed us in financial difficulties and future uncertainty.

My early life experience had taught me to take care of myself and family by preparing for the future. I learned that with the right HMO plan, I may be able to protect myself from most of these risks and other types of medical bills. I have invested in a healthcare coverage the moment I joined the workforce and I”m planning to enroll my entire family for HMO coverage as well.

It is a cliché that people today think that treasuring one”s health is the most important thing. The saying “Health is Wealth” generally translates that part of being wealthy is staying healthy. And having good health insurance/coverage provides you with an affordable way to get medical care when you need it. When you realize the cost of worrying on your energy and your health (like I did mine), it really makes sense to be covered.

While there is nothing permanent in this life, having MediCard helps ease my unrelenting doubts and helps me look at life from a more positive perspective. Why do I need to worry when I have access to affordable care?

Others may think that having such health cards can be too costly but really, when the need arises one would be grateful for having one.

Emiliana SisonApril 21, 2015 at 11:23 PM

It is true. The medical benefits we get from HMO coverage far outweight the annual fees we invest on.

papalengApril 24, 2015 at 10:45 AM

This also my perception. Reading this post made me change my mind.

wingedbitchApril 21, 2015 at 2:55 PM

…they give a good customer service via email. Prompt ang response.

Emiliana SisonApril 21, 2015 at 11:35 PM

I have a listing of accredited doctors in hospitals near my residence and office in handy.

Also commend Medicard for their good Customer Relations Management.

Rona Cuera-OApril 21, 2015 at 2:58 PM

I have one when I worked for my first company. Medocard was the name of our health card but it is only limited for some things which not really a great help for single mothers like me.

Emiliana SisonApril 24, 2015 at 9:39 PM

The pre-existing condition clause often limits the use for some members.

easter_kwagoApril 21, 2015 at 11:09 PM

This is really helpful information. Thanks for sharing!

Vicky ThompsonApril 21, 2015 at 11:12 PM

Thank you for sharing your story. I”m sorry you had to go through that. But I am glad for you now that you are prepared for anything

Emiliana SisonApril 24, 2015 at 9:40 PM

I too am glad that the turbulent years are over.

TweenselMomApril 22, 2015 at 6:14 AM

I hope there”s a way we can get a medicard even if we are work at home moms.

RoxiApril 22, 2015 at 8:51 AM

My current HMO sucks, super hirap makipag usap and mag-claim ng benefits. I”d love to be with Medicard, but no budget at the moment. I heard they are increasing their fees also?

Mastermom SpeaksApril 22, 2015 at 9:01 AM

I”d love to have health cards. Very efficient and dependable kasi talaga sila. I”m a government worker and they only give us philhealth =(. Will think about getting a health card myself for my family and will definitely check the medicard. Thanks for sharing!

Marie Angeli LaxaApril 22, 2015 at 9:36 AM

I used to have medical insurance when I was still working in the office, but now, I don”t have one anymore. Reminds me to file an application for MediCard. Thank you!

fashioneggpplantApril 22, 2015 at 10:28 AM

this is so timely since we”ve been thinking about getting a medicard lately. really saves you a lot of money in the end

AyiApril 22, 2015 at 2:02 PM

This is a problem among freelancers. We don”t have much benefits compared to those who have day jobs. This would be really useful just in case. Thanks for sharing

Mommy LevyApril 22, 2015 at 8:45 PM

We are thinking to get a health card soon, thanks for this post I learned about Medicard.

FrancApril 23, 2015 at 1:04 AM

Having health cards is one of the benefits that I appreciate because it keeps us secure especially when we are sick.

kRodApril 23, 2015 at 12:16 PM

A health card is something that you”re happy to have but you wish you don”t have to use. Of course nobody wants to get sick but just in case it happens, it”s good to know that you”ll have less to worry about. If you are an employee, that”s something to consider when choosing a company to work for. Now that I don”t work anymore, my daughter and I have health cards as both dependents of my husband.

Que Sullano – GavanApril 23, 2015 at 8:56 PM

Now that we are freelancers, I have been scouting for HMO cards. Will check on this

jared”s mumApril 24, 2015 at 7:33 PM

i used to have MediCard when I was still working + it sure is convenient to have a card in case of emergencies. work-from-home mums should also consider getting one

Celerhina AubreyApril 24, 2015 at 8:57 PM

I really believe that its very important to have health cards. My entire family has one. It comes in handy when my daughter was hospitalized last year due to pneumonia. Grabe ang bill! Without the card siguro umiyak na ko.

Carlo Andrew OlanoApril 25, 2015 at 12:11 AM

MediCard is really one of the best! Great post and thanks for the useful information.

Cebuana MomApril 25, 2015 at 12:30 AM

Used to have this with my employer but haven”t really gotten to use it (Thank God). Insurance is really helpful as in the case of sickness since it somehow provide us with a worry-free existence.

KarenApril 25, 2015 at 7:23 AM

I”m sad because our company shifted to other HMO brand. I”m more at home with Medicard.

Janice LimApril 25, 2015 at 11:12 AM

I”m actually looking into getting an HMO this year. Medicard is on my list of prospects.

theresaApril 25, 2015 at 1:09 PM

One must invest on this card. This is a great investment so you”re always covered.

Ma.Me.Mi.MommyApril 26, 2015 at 9:26 PM

In the company where husband work, they also have an HMO. I find it really useful to be covered by it although there are some restrictions that make it unusable at times.

FrancApril 27, 2015 at 8:29 PM

You can really feel secure with medicard as hospital bills can pile up at some time. I”ve experienced the benefit first hand.

Raine PalApril 27, 2015 at 9:22 PM

I also have a Medicard when I am still working as a Call Center Agent, but now as a stay home mom, working online…I only have my PhilHealth. But if I have to choose I want to have a Medicard again.

RaquelApril 28, 2015 at 9:25 PM

It is to my firm belief that everyone should have some type of medical coverage. You never know where life will take you. One minute you are healthy, the next you are in the hospital bed.

JhoveleenApril 29, 2015 at 4:43 AM

Our health is unpredictable, it is better to prepare than to say sorry in the end for did nothing while in good health.

Medicard: A Must-Have for Every Freelancer

By: Ma. Clarice Itumay

Working from home as a freelancer was one of the best decisions that I had made in 2013. I was able to say goodbye to the horrors of everyday commute while earning more compared to my old job. It was a dream come true.

In May 2014, my fairy tale ended when I got a very bad attack of asthma and needed to see the doctor. I realized I did not have my HMO card anymore which was a benefit from my previous employer. The consultation fee alone was Php 750 plus the tests. I am not used to paying for medical expenses and I just felt it was money down the drain.

I was thinking, “What if I did not have money?”, “Do I have to wait for payday before I can see a doctor?” It is such a nightmare to be sick and broke at the same time. Immediately, I decided I am getting a personal plan from one of HMOs so, I did my research and found out that these plans are not cheap. Definitely worth the investment but not cheap.

Then, I had to go back to the doctor again for another consultation and at this rate, I realized that I wouldn”t be able to save enough to get my personal plan. MEDICAL EXPENSES + BILLS = NO SAVINGS!

Luckily, I found out about the Medicard RX Health Plus. For just Php 1,100, I am able to get unlimited free consultations with primary care physicians and some specialists such as general surgeon, obstetrician gynecologist, pediatrician, family medicine, general practitioner and general internist for one year. (That”s Php 750 savings for me every visit) plus it includes FREE annual physical examination and FREE dental prophylaxis.

The best thing about it is that I was able to use it immediately upon purchase of the plan (yes, same day!) And since my doctor also required me to have CBC and Chest X-Ray, I also availed the APE so, that I won”t have to pay for those tests. So, basically I got the value for what I have paid for the same day I purchased it.

I have the peace of mind that I can visit the doctor anytime I need to because I can use this card for one year! I am also eligible for 20% discount on all laboratory and diagnostic tests, surgeries, and dental procedures. Plus, these outpatient services can be availed in all Medicard free standing clinics which is all over the Metro Manila. This is definitely a must-have for every freelancer if you cannot afford the full HMO plan.

It is such a blessing that MediCard, a pioneer and the best HMO in the country for 28 years (Yes, its celebrating its 28th anniversary this May) is providing us which very affordable and quality healthcare. We no longer have to worry in times of medical crisis because they make sure that everyone can enjoy RX Health Plus with no provisions for hierarchy, status and family relationships.

Why Worry? Here are 10 Reasons Why You Should Get a MediCard

By Ryan Ferdinand L. De Ocampo

I have vertigo and occasionally gets GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease) attacks which are both stress related long-term ailments.  My wife, on the other hand, visits the ER once or twice a year because of anxiety attacks.  But we’re not worried, we have a MediCard!

MediCard is one of the most well-known and oldest Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) that provides a comprehensive health care program for its members here in the Philippines.  Just like ‘colgate’ is to toothpaste, MediCard became the second name of HMO here in the country.

My wife works as the executive assistant to the director of an NGO based in Manila and they’ve been with MediCard for almost 5 years already.  Before having MediCard as their healthcare provider, the company was with two other HMOs in the past and she was able to compare the services offered by MediCard with the previous ones.

“In terms of the array of specialists, facilities and services, MediCard is way better than the other two.”  She said.

My wife also added that they have proven time and time again that MediCard is indeed a customer-friendly or a member-centered HMO that provides them with an above expectation value-added services.

But don’t take her word for it, let’s go look at MediCard closely and find out why people who are on MediCard have nothing to worry about.  Here are 10 reasons why YOU SHOULD BE ON MediCard as well!

  1. MediCard, established in May 1987, is one of the pioneering HMO here in the Philippines and they’re celebrating their 28th years of service this year.
  2. MediCard is a founding member of the Association of Health Maintenance organizations of the Philippines (AHMOPI).
  3. You might not know this yet but MediCard is the only HMO run and founded by real DOCTORS.
  4. MediCard is also the first HMO awarded with an ISO certification in the Asia Pacific Region.
  5. MediCard members have access to more than 40,000 accredited doctors, specialists and dentists in almost 1,000 accredited hospitals and clinics nationwide.
  6. MediCard have an easy-enrollment plan for individual members, family, group, corporate and VIP programs.
  7. MediCard offers comprehensive healthcare coverage to its members which includes emergency care, hospital confinement, preventive health care, dental care, member’s financial assistance and out-patient consultation services.
  8. Aside from the many accredited healthcare providers, MediCard has a total of 10 Free Standing Clinics nationwide and 6 Satellite Clinics.
  9. MediCard also has a state-of-the-art Lifestyle Center in Paseo De Roxas, Makati City.  A first-of-its kind, it is designed to offer effective solutions for wellness and lifestyle diseases and home to, among others, a state-of-the-art dermatological center, a fitness facility, an eye and colorectal center, dental clinics and a yoga center. The MediCard Lifestyle Center also has its own coffee shop and a Sugarleaf store that serves organic food to help clients stay on track of their health and fitness goals.
  10. MediCard Value-Added Services includes online and text services that allows you to apply or renew membership online, schedule APE (annual physical examinations) and easy access to their customer services.

Aside from these awesome facts about MediCard, MediCard members (card owners) are entitled also to a number of perks and discounts to various commercial establishments like California Pizza Kitchen, Yoshinoya, TOSH, Wendys, Hotel H2O, Island Cove, Cordlife, Lifeline, Tobys, Ideal Vision and many others.

Hi, All:

I hope this email finds you well.

Thought I’d send in an email letting you know how great of an experience I’ve had when Karla received my call at around 10am on February 23, 2012. Karla was simply exceptional. She went over and beyond her job. I think Karla should be an employee of the month or better yet, promote her to be a Trainer. Thanks again to Karla.

Good job Karla. Keep up the good work!!!

I was in your Medicard Paseo-Buendia clinic for cardio consultation due to persistent chest pains. I am impressed with the lobby and the overall appearance including the clinics. Let me highlight that I had the best service from your Mark (I think he is a Nurse) who assisted me all the way. At about 7am I called to check the availability of a cardio specialist, he was courteous, able to address my concern and even gave me the directions where to park. He made extra effort in everything that I need including finding ways how I can get the soonest available schedule for 2D Echo and Treadmill Stress Test.

The doctors look respectable in their white garb, while the rest of the staff looks nice, courteous and there were some pretty faces too.

My cardio doctor was also good clearly explaining his initial findings and what he recommended for me to undergo.

Great innovations and consistent quality service, indeed!

Great job Mark!!! Keep up the good work!!!

Good day. I am sending this e-mail to commend the exemplary service of Louise Claire T. Libang, Liaison Officer, Operations Department stationed at the Manila Doctors Hospital. I have been admitted as a patient at the Manila Doctors Hospital 2 times over the past 3 months. The first time was last August 2011 and the 2nd time was just this month, October 2011. As a Medicard holder, I enjoy the usual healthcare benefits covered by our company’s plan. What made this last 2 hospitalization exceptional from my past experiences, is the assistance and service that Louise extended to me and my husband in processing the MediCard coverage, excess billing and other documentations required. Louise exhibited her full knowledge and experience about the MediCard processes and likewise, the Manila Doctor\’s processes making our transaction smooth and painless. I would recommend MediCard to hire more people like Louise with very good customer service skills combined with process knowledge. Again, our deepest thanks to Louise and MedCard for these past 2 experiences.

The Doctor (pertaining to Dra. Ibarrola) was very kind in explaining facts related to the situation or later prognosis, appreciated it very much. All Staff are very helpful.

This is to commend the good service and attention extended to us by your representative at Manila Doctors Hospital,-MS LOUISE CLAIRE T. LIBANG.

I am the Branch Head at Luzon Development. Bank, Bacoor Branch. I, together with my daughter Juliann Chriselle F. Sabater, have been Medicard members since 2005. My daughter who is 18 years old recently underwent an appendectomy operation at the Manila Doctors Hospital and was confined for four (4) days from September 16 to September 19, 2011. During these 4 days of confinement, Ms Libang was always available, even through cellular phone, to assure and assist us with our needs; especially during that time that we were settling our account prior to discharge.

With people like her in your company, we your clients, can truly say that MEDICARD, is the healthcare that we deserve.

This is to inform you that Ms. Nenita Ngo, our LO at Chinese Gen was commended this afternoon by Ms. Joyce Uychangco, Vice President of Destileria Limtuaco (also contract signatory). She was delighted on how Ms. Nits handled the challenge regarding the incremental charges. She was given a rate of 5 (if rating is 1-5, 5 being the highest). Congratulations to her.

My mother in law Mrs. Teresita Gaces was confined at MCU hospital last July 25, It was my sister in law under Tollways Management who has Medicard privileged. I would like to thank Ms.Jonah, Medicard representative who took an extra mile in achieving patient\’s satisfaction. She was very helpful and she let us feel to worry less, she visits us daily and update our billsl. To Ms. Jona, thankyou for showing empathy to our family, esp in assisting as through out the hospitalization upto the time we paid our bills. Godbless and keep on helping your members!

I spoke with Eds just this day 06.18.2012 at 10:01am (in my watch) and spend almost 20 mins. over the phone for my loads of concerns about my plan, EDS HAS BEEN A WONDERFUL REPRESENTATIVE THAT HAS A MASTERY OF WHAT SHE IS DOING. SHE ALSO HAS HER WAY TO SIMPLIFY MY CONCERN THAT I HAVE HARD TIME TO UNDERSTAND. please extend to her my deepest gratitude for being so patient and kind. i rate her 10 for her performance. thanks. Hi Sir/Madam,

I would like to personally thank you and your very efficient team member, Aldrin, for assisting me in my requirements. I have had a good number of excellent customer service from various establishments but I must say that Aldrin is one of the best customer facing reps so far. He is highly commendable and has superb customer service skills. He is an asset to your company.

Thank you very much.

Gentlemen: I would like to express my appreciation to Medicard for the very valuable help that was rendered to me during my confinement at the Makati Medical Center during the period: June 1-5 and June 13-22, 2012.

The privilege of being a recipient of the services of Medicard had removed the financial burden from my family; furthermore, I was spared from anxiety because your liaison, MR. JOHN MICHAEL PURIFICACION, had faithfullly and efficiently done his job of informing me and my wife of the progress of my hospital billing. He visited me everyday and patiently and clearly explained all our queries about Medicard services. He even went out of his way to follow up the doctors\’ reports beyond working hours just so my bill would be in order before my discharge from the hospital. He personally did the follow-up with the Billing Office at Makati Med while my wife and I just waited comfortably in my room. My family had been members of other HMOs in the past, but the quality of service of Medicard as represented by MR PURIFICACION stands out. Thank you so much for the caring attitude of your staff over and above your routine job of paying for my hospital bill. God bless you.

On behalf of my husband, Mr. Allan Carlo Santayana, employed at Newtrends International Corporation, I would like to commend MS. ROXANNE REYNANTE Liaison Officer for Medical Operations for providing us exemplary service and outstanding assistance despite of her being busy at the billing office at Makati Medical Center last April 27, 2012. She smiles all the time which is the most important in her profession. She deserves to be promoted. She’s an asset to your company and an an example of a well-trained employee.

Keep up the good work.

More power to Medicard Phils. Inc.
