Keeping Cebuanos in the pink of health

By: Din M. Villafuerte – @inquirerdotnet Fondly referred to by many as the “Queen City of the South,” Cebu has become an similarly progressive and bustling city as Manila. Businesses from Metro Manila continue to set up shop here.  And thanks to the growing population, there’s also an ever increasing demand for establishments and institutions, from malls and restaurants to property developers and health service providers. One health maintenance organization that has brought its services to Cebu is MediCard Philippines Inc.  It initially opened its Cebu clinic and sales office in 2013 along Pres. Osmeña Blvd. before moving in 2017 to its present location on Archbishop Reyes Avenue in Mabolo. “Our goal is to build clinics in areas where we have high concentration of corporate clients, members and prospective members, such that they can access quality and affordable outpatient medical services near their offices or their residences,” explained MediCard president Dr. Nicky S. Montoya. The opening of MediCard’s free-standing clinic in Cebu is due to the increased client demand for quality managed healthcare without breaking the bank. For MediCard, this also means means having a deeper connection with the Cebuanos. “There is always the opportunity to add another layer of customers, or appeal to a new set of customers in Cebu,” said Doc Nicky. MediCard Cebu’s sales office and free-standing clinic occupies two floors at FLB Corporate Center—Unit 204 has an area of nearly 120 sqm while Unit 704 measures almost 280 sqm. MediCard’s members and even nonmembers can avail of their annual physical exam, pre-employment exam, medical exam, dental services, issuance of out-patient consultation referrals and issuance of out-patient laboratory/diagnostic forms from Unit 204. Meanwhile, Unit 704 has the following services: executive checkup; consultations in internal medicine, family medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, cardiology, pulmonology, ophthalmology, pediatric medicine, general practitioner and general surgery; laboratory exams for hematology, clinical microscopy, blood chemistry, serology, histopath and drug testing; and X-ray, ultrasound and 2D echo imaging. Also being offered at Unit 704 are spirometry, ECG, nebulization, treadmill stress test and minor surgery. Moving to a new location back in 2017 extends MediCard’s thrust to deliver quality service to its members.  It is near a mall and is accessible by public transport, contributing to the area’s dynamic character. Being MediCard’s first free-standing clinic outside of Luzon, the process of establishing the Cebu clinic involved closer attention and careful planning.  And while there were risks, there were...

A one-stop shop for health and wellness

By: Din M. Villafuerte – @inquirerdotnet Everybody seems to be living a fast-paced lifestyle these days. So fast, that many of us barely have time to attend to equally important things, such as setting a day aside to go to the doctor for a regular checkup. Add the fact that having a busy way of life often makes us negligent of our own health, as we opt for easier and lazier choices such as not bothering to eat healthy or not engaging in physical activities. “Lifestyle diseases” such as diabetes and obesity have become more prevalent in Filipinos, given the sedentary and unhealthy lifestyle that many of us lead. And it is for this reason that health maintenance organization MediCard Philippines Inc. came up with the MediCard Lifestyle Center. The center aims to address the Filipinos’ growing need for a wellness facility, where everyone can avail of an all-around experience in health and fitness. MediCard targets to offer more services to its clients in just one venue. “It’s a one-stop center where people can go for their wellness needs,” said MediCard president Dr. Nicky Montoya. “It’s really designed to give our members and even non-members a venue for managing their health and well-being.” Standing on the corner of Paseo de Roxas and Gil Puyat Avenue, the MediCard Lifestyle Center is the first of its kind in an HMO setting. Nestled right in the heart of a bustling central business district, it makes for an ideal wellness retreat that you can usually find within five-star resorts outside the city. Upon entering the Medicard Lifestyle Center, clients are greeted by a homey and spacious lobby. The 5,138-sqm space features nature-inspired decor and beautiful zen gardens. Soothing ambient music can be heard throughout the facility. “We want a welcoming, relaxing ambiance for our clients and not the intimidating hospital environment so they can heal, not only physically but spiritually as well,” Doc Nicky said. The MediCard Lifestyle Center has an operating room, consultation rooms, imaging and x-ray rooms. It is also home to dental clinics; a fitness facility; pharmacy; Surya Fitness Yoga which offers basic yoga, hatha, vinyasa and pilates; a Skin and Body Clinic, a laser and aesthetic care center that provides a wide range of services such as laser treatment, pain-free hair removal, nonsurgical facelift, body reshaping and contouring through the use of state-of-the-art equipment; and a Natural Rejuvenation Clinic. “Since we do...
